social-media-picture-sizes-2021-cheat-sheet-for-each-community

Image sizes on social media seem to be constantly changing.

In an instant, you'll have the perfect cover sheet for your account. Next time it was resized and it all looks pixelated and wrong.

It doesn't help that information on official dimensions and image sizes is harder to find than a civil discussion of politics on Facebook.

However, it's not difficult to consult this guide on image sizes on social media.

Below are the latest social media image dimensions as of 2021.

Bonus: Get the always-up-to-date image size cheat sheet on social media. The free resource provides recommended photo dimensions for every image type on every major network.

Why is it important to find the right image sizes for social media?

There's a lot to do if your brand is creating great visual content for social media.

You need to make sure that the images you are using do not violate copyright laws. If you don't have original pictures, you need to find high quality photos. And you need to figure out what tools can be used to enhance your social media images.

In addition, you need to set the right image sizes for your social media. And getting it right is really important because:

  • It avoids pixel formation and cumbersome image stretching. Avoiding this will make your images look professional.
  • Your photos will be optimized for each social channel's feed. This can help increase engagement.
  • It ensures that your audience sees the full photo. Wrong size can cut off some of your brand's messages.
  • It can future proof your content. If you are now familiar with image sizes on social media, it may mean less work for your brand in the future if the network changes how images are displayed again.

In addition, brands using the Hootsuite photo editor can size and edit their social media images right in the composer. Upload an image in the composer and click on Edit picture to start the tool. And it makes it easy to crop and resize images for each specific social channel.

This is how it works:

Instagram image sizes

Instagram supports horizontally and vertically oriented images. It also continues to support square images, which the platform was known for when it first launched.

This increases your brand's options. But it also makes it a little harder to get the image dimensions right. Follow these guidelines to make sure your pictures look their best.

Instagram profile photo size: 320 x 320 pixels

Instagram profile photos are saved with 320 x 320 pixels. So upload an image that is the least large.

Although the dimensions are square, Instagram profile photos appear as a circle. Make sure that whatever elements you want to focus on in the photo are centered so they don't get cut out.

Instagram image sizes for feed photos:

  • Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels
  • Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels
  • Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels
  • Supported aspect ratios: Anywhere between 1.91: 1 and 4: 5
  • Recommended image size: Width 1080 pixels, height between 566 and 1350 pixels (depending on whether it is landscape or portrait)

Instagram image sizes for feed photos

Tips:

  • If you want your pictures to look their best on Instagram, upload an image that is 1080 pixels wide.
  • If you share an Instagram picture that is larger than 1080 pixels, Instagram will shrink it to 1080 pixels.
  • If you share a photo with a resolution of less than 320 pixels, Instagram will shrink it down to 320 pixels.
  • If your picture is between 320 and 1080 pixels wide, Instagram will keep the photo's original resolution “as long as the aspect ratio of the photo is between 1.91: 1 and 4: 5 (a height between 566 and 1350 pixels with a width of 1080 Pixel). ”
  • If your uploaded Instagram picture has a different ratio, the platform will automatically crop your photo to fit a supported ratio.

  • Instagram rolls use the same size.
